Recently, the Parliament cleared a new bill – The Constitution (One twenty fourth) Amendment Act, 2019 for Economically Weaker Sections of unreserved category, with reservation of 10% in jobs and education institutions, following an approval by Rajya Sabha and the President of India. The bill was introduced by Minister of Social justice and Employment in Lok Sabha. The Act amends two Fundamental Rights – Article 15 and Article 16 of the Constitution via The Constitution (One hundred third) Amendment Act, 2019. It also makes clear that it is additional to the existing reservations.
